Fuel filter=pain in the ****

Changed the fuel filter on my D model today, what a pain. 2 1/2 hours of cussing and bleeding knuckles got it done, but dang.
No wrench supposed to be used to install, YEA tell the guy that installed the original. Basically had to cut the dang thing off. Tight quarters and filter wrenches that slip are a pain. Cold temperatures are another reason I had problems, will have to remember to do this next summer.

Perhaps there is a way of abandoning that filter and replacing it with an in-line filter more conventiently placed before that one .

Don't go around the fuel filter- it has an integrated water trap. Water in diesel fuel, which is not so uncommon, is one of the major causes of diesel engine failure.

The first time I changed the hyd. filter on my tractor it was stuck so bad I thought they put the filter on before they powder coated the tractor frame. I ended up buying a plumbers chain wrench and it worked very well. No slipping with that and if I remember it was less than $20.

I don't mean to not use it at all . I said to put it in a better place if possible .

I feel your pain but I can top that. Getting the oil filter off after a Bobcat service took me 1/2 a day, used two filter wrenches (strap and vise-grip) to no effect, ending sawing off the can and hammering the collar off with a makeshift stainless steel shank, which was ruined in the process-- crazy-- who heard of screwing filters on "finger tight?" Sheesh!
