My 2 year old Boomer 35 does not have a shut off at the fuel filter. So when I change the fuel filter, I use 3 small vise grips to close off the lines. Any better suggestions. Should I cut the lines and put in shutoff valves? Is there an aftermarket replacement filter assembly that has a built in shutoff valve? My old Cub Cadet had a shutoff valve on the top. Thanks for any feedback.

use hose pinchers

or if you have threaded holes on the filter housing just thread in some brass valves like these, just check the threads on the housing before ordering. Alternately you can put a similar valve in the line with hose barbs.

Last option would be to change filter housings. I like the Racor 120 housing as I have on my BX. Youd still need the above valves though

I assume it's like my boomer 30. I didn't see any room between the filter and the firewall, so I don't know where Id put a shutoff in the engine compartment.. The best place I thought to put one was right at the tank at the back of the tractor. Thoughts on metal vs cheap plastic one?

Metal. Some plastics dont necessarily agree with fuels or additives.

Im not real familiar with NH , pics of the filter in its location would help.

I won't be near my boomer until I get to the cabin this weekend. I'll post some pics then.

I went to the local hardware store and got two 1/4 inch hose barbs and as shutoff valve. Especially since they don't really tell in the operators manual which one is the inlet. SO I put mine just under the tank. Cost, a whopping $8, I think. If I remember, I'll take a picture.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your input. I followed up with my local dealer and he said that there is an automatic shutoff when you remove the filter?? Haven't changed mine since talking to him so not sure. I noticed in your Boomer 35 review you mentioned a special tool to make changing the fuel filter easier. Could you tell me what it is. I have a hard time getting it off.

Thanks, Dan

I just changed the oil in mine for the first time. Stuck the end of a drill bit in the hose. It really was not much of a problem. I was going to put a cock valve on mine, but, I do not think I will bother.
