Bobcat 863
The BobCat started running rough yesterday and I suspect the fuel filter. The dealer won't be open until Monday.

Tractor Supply Co. listed a Fram C1191A for the 863. I'm new to BobCats and haven't had the filter off yet, but this one doesn't look right. It is not a spin-on and doesn't have a drain at the bottom. It does have a hole through the middle of the filter.

Anyone know a 3rd party filter that will work?

How do I bleed the fuel line after replacing it?

ALSO

Anyone recommend a fuel additive to clean the injectors?

Napa 3192 will work, I have used hundreds of them. Here is the link to Napa Filters

To bleed after changing, loosen the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing, pump the primer bulb until you get a steady stream of fuel out of the bleeder, tighten the screw, pump the bulb a couple more times for good measure, start the machine.

Thanks. That one looks more like it.

I think the primer bulb has fozzilized. Probably better find one of those also.

It's 2 degrees here this morning.
Never volunteer to take over a farm in the middle of winter.

if you fill the new filter all the way full before installing, you shouldnt have to bleed. i bet i havent had to bleed 10 out of the 1000s of bobcat fuel filters ive changed

Changing the filter didn't help.

Replacing the primer bulb solved the problem.
Must have cracked and been sucking air.

Employee called from the farm yesterday and said the Bobcat is running rough again and exhaust is pretty black.

Any suggestions before I call for service?

Black smoke is caused by the engine being over-fueled, or under-aired. I would check the air filter first. If the inner air filter is discolored at all, it needs to be replaced, it will plug up much faster than the outer filter. If just the outer filter is clogged you can knock the dirt out of it by tapping in on something. I don't recommend blowing it out, you can open the pores or damage the filter.

Would pulling the filters out be a good test to see if that is the problem?
I wouldn't do any work without them in, but was wondering if that would be a good test.

The outer filter looked dirty, but not bad. The inner one looked OK. But it was below zero when I looked at them a few days ago.

I'm going out to the farm this afternoon to take a look at it. Also hope to get a new radiator into the Ford tractor so the Bobcat doesn't have to do everything.

Yes, pulling the filters would be a good quick check.

No change with the filters out.

Just before the fuel filter is another "part". I removed the cover and found a round metal screen. It was covered in black, gooey junk. I cleaned it off, screwed the cover back on and the Bobcat is running great

Is that some sort of prefilter?
