Fuel Filter change on a 3720

My owner's manual says to change every year or 400 hours the fuel filter. Is this the whiite plastic filter in the water separator or the metal spin-on filter, or both?

There are both.
Does the owners manual address both? And how often to change the elements?

Yes, there are both. JD part # M811032 $8.75 and # MIU800645 $12.25.

Yes these are the 2 to which I'm referring. Do they BOTH need to be replaced or just the smaller white one every year? I've got 50 hours on the machine but it is 1 year old. According to the manual every year the water separator needs to be cleaned and the filter replaced according to the manual. Does this include the spin on fuel filter?

Do as you wish, and what makes you feel good. I don't think the 50 hours is anything more than a recommendation....something to put in the manual.

If you don't change either, or both, the worst that can happen is you don't get fuel to the engine. Doubt any damage. As long as you drain the water out then you should be good to go.

If you are careful with fuel supply, and not working in dusty, dirty conditions...there should be no fear of excessive contamination.

I change mine once a year anyways. Pretty cheap peace of mind, in my opinion of course. :thumbsup:

I just bought a Kubota 3100. Is there a "DRAINABLE" place to drain water out or just replace the filter? I used to have a Mitsubushi diesel CAR that had a little valve (like an air compressor tank has) to drain water out of the filter bowl.

My JD parts guy didn't know if the spin-on filter needed replacing every year or not either, so I elected to just get the filter and be done with it. It certainly can't hurt and I have piece of mind.
