I've been sewing my rips and tears since 1972. The Marine Corps taught me many things.
Yup. I'm single - and have owned my own sewing machine for many, many years.

The "iron-on" patches in the photos worked for me till the first time they were put in the clothes washer.

Years ago I had a neighbor who was shooting in the yard and I asked him what he was doing and he said he was taking a 12 gauge to his new jeans. No issues with safety as it was large property and the jeans were over an old stump.

I think I just kinda walked away...

I buy new jeans at Walmart or Costco for $15 if it is worn out, I've gotta count my time and effort too. I'm plenty busy and I dont waste a whole lot of $$$ on clothes.

The iron-on patches are just thin fabric with a thin layer of hot-melt glue.
I upped the ante by cutting patches from one old pair of jeans and using a hot-melt glue gun to permanently affix them. I glue a zig-zag pattern in the middle of the patch as well as the edges.
I end up with jeans that are double-thickness in the knee area, except where the actual hole was.
Preferable to new jeans for work pants with the extra-padding. And won't wash off!

I was actually just thinking yesterday, while putting on a pair of shorts, "Wow, I remember buying these shorts ... 23 years ago."

If you have a Rural King near you buy a pair of 'RK' brand blue jeans for $9.99. RK jeans are offered in a wider size selection than Walmart.
