Any thoughts on picking one?

Your tractor probably don't make enough 'Hydraulic' flow (not hydrolic) to run a hydraulic pump in the first place. I'd go with a rear mount PTO powered PHD and I have one for sale (see classifieds) presently. I want 100 bucks for it and it's in very good condition as well.

I guess the answer depends on several factors some of which are:
Tractor size
Ground type, hard packed with tons of rock, easy drilling with little to no rock, etc.
Terrain, flat, hilly, mountain goat country, etc..
Number of posts being installed.
Size and depth of holes for posts.

One advantage of a hydraulic phd is you can reverse the auger if it binds on something. A pto driven phd you need to manually screw out. I have a hydraulic 3pt phd. My tractor is at the lower end of the rated hydraulic specs so it’s a bit slower than if it had a higher flow but it’s a lot better than having to back out the auger by hand

Not sure on soil ground. Stripped in the 1970’s . I guess it depends on how it was restored. Ill know more soon as the driveway enters the field. Plan on building woodshed, equip building and garden ( fenced in).

You definitely have enough hydraulic power to run one. Something like the Landpride SA10 will easily work on your tractor. There are others out there, but these have been around for a while.
Here is a link for one. There is a video of one on a compact tractor at the bottom of the page

I have seen it done successfully.

Take care though on your loader arms. I once passed on a tractor (albeit a smaller Kubota) with tweaked front loader arms as seller said it happened when using his phd that was mounted to a ssqa plate up front. Still worked great with phd but bucket wouldn't sit true to the ground.

What is your tractor's hydraulic flow (available to 3rd function)?
The hydraulic ssqa augers are considerably more expensive.
I have owned both, and hands down the hydraulic ssqa augers are superior in all aspects other than initial expense.

Assuming you have a machine that's actually capable of running either one.

Hydraulic auger advantages:
-Down pressure
-Reverse
-More precise speed control
-Better maneuverability

3 point PTO auger advantages:
-Less expensive
