We are starting to see ground thawing systems where they lay radiant tubing on the ground, cover it with insulating matts , and hitch the tubing up to a portable boiler filled with antifreeze. After a few days the frost is gone.
A contractor that uses one of these said it will remove a foot of frost a day. It is not cheap , and I think the systems start at $25,000.00. But if you need to get a foundation in the winter it will do the trick.
A few thousand to thaw the ground I guess is cheaper than shutting down a big project for 4 or 5 months.
One of the systems is call a Thawsall . I have seen them on Ebay.
