Frontline has quit working...FLEEEEES!

We have wood ticks and deer ticks - no fleas. So far, monthly application of Frontline works. I will DEFINITELY be looking for the Seresto collar for next year. It makes me just itch reading all your flea stories. And I thought vacuuming all the little dead tick bodies was bad!!!

A family down the road keep sheep - about 4000-5000 of the wooly buggers. Long ago I had an Old English Sheep Dog. Took him to the neighbors and ran him thru the "dip tank" to see if it would help with the ticks. It helped but I thought, for a while there, that he would never be my friend again. That "stuff" was some really nasty, evil smelling liquid - but it cuts down on tick problems with the sheep.

Thanks for the link, RobertBrown. I think I just got my answer to that collar. Nothing is so bad in my area that Frontline won't take care of it!!

Like somebody posted on that link Robert, choose ye poison. All of them seem to have issues.
No, you don't have make that choice. you don't have to make your dog poisonous to avoid a flea problem.
I will not use a systemic insecticide on my dogs. I always ask a veterinarian the same question, "Would you use it on your dog"? The few that I have asked have always said "No". Some have laughed and said "No way".
I don't put pesticides on my dogs. The only pesticide I use, I use for fire ants and I apply directly to the mound or nest, that's it.

I was interested in this product because it is a collar, not a liquid applied to the skin. I looked around the web and it didn't take long to find that forum. I checked the product packaging and it says to avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.
That's all I need to avoid using it.
How can I put it on my dogs neck for 8 months if the manufacturer suggests I avoid contact with it? "Wash hands after handling the collar".....not going to use it.
Compendium of Veterinary Products - Seresto® Small or Large Dog (BAYER HEALTHCARE LLC)

I tried to find the product packaging for frontline but it's not available to download or even view. It seems to me that I read it a long time ago, along with some of the other manufacturers.
I'm not sure but I think I remember it recommended not handling the dog for several days after applying.

I live in Florida, I don't have flea problem or I have the fleas under control if you will. It's not easy but it's not poison either.

Reading from my pkg of Frontline Plus. Open, apply, avoid contact with treated area until dry. The active ingredients are listed on the front. Active ingredients:Fipronil- 9.8% & (S)-methoprene - 8.8% // Inert ingredients: 81.4%.

Been using this stuff for a long time and it does the job.

Still using that Seresto collar on me hound. My vet uses it on her dogs. Die from poison, die from germs - goners I tell ye.

Dawn dishwashing mixed with water for a strong solution kills fleas very effectively and is a lot cheaper than flea shampoo

Any soap theoretically will kill fleas since it left on them long enough it clogs their exoskeleton and they suffocate. Soap or shampoo needs to be left on for at least 5 min to kill'em. The dandruff shampoo kills them all, but I can't seem to keep'em off for more than a day or three.........

Our vet has us giving out little mutt a Trifexis tablet once a month as a heartworm & flea preventative. But I've not known of anyone having a flea problem around here in many years. Some say it's because the fire ants wiped out the flea population, but I have no idea how much truth there is to that. But about 30 years ago we had a very small backyard and a teenage daughter who had a small poodle. And when that little dog got fleas, I mixed liquid Sevin in a 5 gallon bucket and dipped that little mutt right up to his eyes and nose in it, then sprayed that liquid on the yard, and no more fleas.

My vet changed my dog's frontline over to Activyl because it supposed to be better than frontline. I did put in on a few weeks ago and although she's not gotten any fleas, it was much greasier than the frontline.
I'm going back, we had no issues before and she was not greasy for days.
