Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

When I first saw your pictures I thought you had mounted the string trimmer head in place of the deflector chute on your mower deck - now I'm thinking, why not? Mow and trim at the same time.

Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

I thought about that, but there were two problems: you'd probably want to use something smaller than this 22" trimmer; and this little tractor doesn't have enough power (on my lawn) for its 42" deck alone, but its got plenty for the trimmer. It's really quick to switch between the deck and trimmer.

I mow with a 72" RFM without trying to get too close to anything, then make a quick pass with the 42" deck to clean up the spots I missed, then pop the trimmer on and attack my fence and ditches. After that, it's Miller time!

Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

Depending on what model tractors you guys have, I would be glad to look at wipping up a batch for you. If we could do enough, we should be able to hold the price down. Besides the JD LX series that I have, I would think the JD L120 they sell at Home Depot would be a natural (like the LX, they have an electric PTO clutch that simplifies the belt arrangement)

Great idea, clean and beautiful fabrication.

Instead of posting pictures, you need to be on the way to the patent office and lock down a patent fast. Then start talking to a manufacturer quickly.

What you have here has the potential to but some people out of business.

I agree with all the above, that's a great set up.

Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

Thanks. The neat thing is, unlike some of my ideas, it works as well as I had hoped it would. It cuts foot tall weeds and grass like butter.

Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

I think thats pretty much what I had in mind. My pto is on the front so thats where mine will be mounted. I've got a mill , lathe and welder now about time!!!

John, If you don't take your designs and do something like sell them or set up a business to arrange for mfg and dist, you are missing a good opportunity.

VERY NICE IDEA! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

==========I don't need it for fences,
I need something to trim along ditches with.
Anybody thought about a clamp on weed eater

Re: My 16HP riding weed wacker

</font><font color="blueclass=small">( Here's a fence trimmer I build from a large wheel gas powered string trimmer. It clips on to the mower deck mounts with two pins in about a minute. The original had a 6HP engine, so I geared it up a little and usually cut at about half throttle. The mower height lever raises and lowers it, although it could use more range than the mowers 4 inches. Sure does cut great though. It's spring loaded and pivots around fence posts. )</font>

The only draw back is you have to remove the mower deck to use this?

I have a gas powered hedge trimmer and it dose an excellent job. perhaps you could mount one on the side of your mower.

</font><font color="blueclass=small">( I saw a 12Volt string trimmer at one of the shows I attended, darned if I can remember who it was though. It attached the the side of your mower deck and was operated by a foot switch. Spring loaded as well. Anyone else remember seeing this? )</font>

Could it have been one of these?

We can start with this Sortened Long Link, this is the beggining of a good tool.

MikePA: Cleaned up long URL. Please review your message before posting it. It's simple not to do this. Just insert a descriptive word or two between the {url=http://whatever}<font color="red">Enter words here</font>{/url} instead of the entire URL. Replace parentheses {} with square brackets in previous example.
