Hi everyone, will try to be clear and concise here. Needing to decide on a mower before spring arrives, and soon enough to allow time to search for a good used/new example to buy.
I have about 5 acres to mow, with plenty of buildings and trees to get around. Want a smooth ride, and I want to spend as little time as possible in the driver's seat of a mower (within reason). I like the maneuverability of the mid-mount mowers, and the speed, but the design just looks like a rough ride compared to front mount mowers. Plus I think the front mounted deck is easier to see, sneak under trees/bushes, etc.
Here are some of the factors in my decision:
1. I have about $8000-9000 to put toward a mower that meets as many of my criteria as possible.
2. I have John Deere, Grasshopper, Kubota, Toro and Walker dealers within reasonable driving distance. (The only dealer relationship we have is John Deere, as that is our Ag equipment choice.)
3. I like Diesel power for several reasons, so will be limiting my search to Diesel engines.
4. I won't be transporting the mower anywhere, so size isn't a concern as long as it doesn't take away from the mower's productivity.
What recent year model should I be looking at? We as a family aren't the most prompt on mowing always, so definitely need something with the power to handle tall, wet grass on occasion, and still do it at some speed. Thanks for the suggestions. Not a mower expert, by any stretch!
