That's a really good idea and simple too. The only thing is, is that you are looking at the side of the pendulum. One thing that might make this a little easier to read is to paint the sides of the support and the pendulum a bright color (orange of course) so that you could see when they are or are not in sync.

i had a rod going through a sleeve. it had no markings one rod so it was basicly useless, before i got around to marking it with some masking tape and paint. i bent the snot out of it about 4 times and figured whats the point.

when i reinforce the upper lip of my bucket hear soon ill be adding one of those "step" type indicators as i can tell when its level to the ground a lot easyer than watching some rod.

i know that when the loader is on the ground, i have about 1.5" of curl cylinder rod showing which is how i always did level (near the ground)

I don't think the 'perfect' level indicator exists, to many variables. The biggest problem I see with the rod type (other than getting bent) is that it will work for the particular attachment that it is set up for (bucket). If you put forks on then the level probably will not be correct.

Assuming your 'bota bucket has the little step level indicator a very simple and effective method to try is to put some electrical tape along the bend, then place another strip on the back of the bucket that lines up with the first piece when level. This idea was discussed here, bottom of page 3 http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/126006-bukect-level-idea-3.html
Good part is that if you don't like it you can remove the tape and use it for something else:)
