Cannot get dealer to fix on their dime, say it is outside serial number range of mandated fixes.

As was already stated, look at the date this was being disscussed, 6 years ago!
JD did admit to a problem, and took care of those you had the problem in a reasonable amount of time.
Did you buy this machine used?

With my 4300 with the old axle any more than about 1/2 of the turnng arc created the problem. .

Hi: I have a JD 4300 and although I don't mow with it I have driven on the lawn many times with R4 tires and a FEL without any turf damage. Since you have the old type axle could you post a picture of it so that I and others could see what the destructive type of axle looks like? A picture of the new type of axle would be nice too if you have one.
