So my little 155d has had some coolant oozing that last several months from the front and rear head end, nothing major, however it has gotten worse this last week. I ordered the gaskets from Aaron and should be here tomorrow. My question is for those who may have already done this, did you use just the gasket or did you use the gasket in combination with RTV sealant too? If I was to use some RTV I was going to use the Permatex Water Pump RTV with the gasket.

Thoughts on this?

Thanks

I, personally, always put a very thin film of RTV to both sides of the gasket. Not like a bead or anything that will ooze but just basically enough to make it sticky. It will also help hold the gasket in place while you start the bolts. Never had one leak.

Well guys I took the 155d apart yesterday and I should have take some pictures :)mad:) but didn't sorry.

However in the process of removing both front and rear head end plates I discovered a lot of pitting on the plates almost like the radiator had created its own electrolysis throughout the years. The defects in the plates were really significant, but should not affect the seal, it was right around the edges of where the gasket is placed on the plate. I was initially going to just put the gasket on but decided to go ahead and put some RTV on it too just for good measure. To my surprise the back plate had 2 large screws in it instead of bolts. I was able to get them out with my tiny air impact, but didn't use the impact to put them back in, I hope I got them tight enough. I will refill with coolant tomorrow afternoon, give the RTV a good 36 hour dry time and test it out. I also put in a mechanical thermostat to keep a better eye on my temps when using the tiller.

Again sorry for not taking any pictures.
