The hard plastic connector on my charging circuit was old and brittle. Mine "fried" similar to what you are describing. I assumed that the connector had allowed something to short that had caused the problem. I rewired the circuit back to where I had good wire and replaced the connector with a two conductor trailer plug. Well, it still works, at least part of the time. Sometimes the charge light comes on for no apparent reason but usually only briefly. I also have to charge the battery from time to time. I wonder if my alternator might need brushes. Right now, it's working fairly well and I'm a little hesitant to tear into it. At least it isn't smoking anymore! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
