After that unusual snow and ice storm we had late in the fall (the one that left us without power for 77 hours) it's been an unusually uneventful winter. Looks like it's finally ready to hit again. Forecast is for rain (in January???) followed by rapidly dropping temperatures, 15-25 mph wind and 10"-12" of snow. So, we'll most likely end up with a generous coating of ice (it's already raining as I type this) on everything, complete with drifting, just to make the roads that much more treacherous for when the snow flies.

In response, I stayed home from work, as I have absolutely no desire to tempt fate with the 35 mile commute in this bit of nastiness. The tractor is fueled up, wood is cut, kerosene lamps are in place, shelves are well stocked, and I've just opened a new 25 lb bag of green coffee beans (gotta have your creature comforts, too), ready to roast on demand.

Bring it!

Sounds like you are well prepared --- except perhaps --- for the whiskey. You need some to stay warm. Good luck.

My bad. I just went down into the basement to bring it all up for ease of use. It's a 50 lb bag.:rolleyes:

Year's supply? Sounds about right.

Nah... We just buy it bulk because it's half the price. When coffee beans are green (unroasted) they will stay fresh for years. Once they're roasted, the oils are released and they go rancid fast. We like our fresh coffee, but we also like saving money.

It's morning now and we have a fresh blanket of snow. When I'm out doing chores, I'll snap some pics for you all... before I blow it all out... and maybe even after.

Sounds like you have a plan Joe. I hope that all goes well for you. We are facing pretty much the same weather up here too. It is calling for 25-30 degrees today and tomorrow, than it will drop back down to our normal temps of -20 or so.
It is all good though. I am at work, my neighbors got it under control.

I'm in fog with light freezing rain here this AM. A thin layer of ice on everything so I went to the sand pile and loaded up then sanded the half mile long private road I plow. takes 100 shovels full on and off to get all the hills.

It's a balmy 7 degrees this morning with predictions of -20 tonight. I snapped a couple pics while I was out doing chores. We didn't quite get the 10"-12" they were calling for, but got a fair amount anyway. The path from the house to the chicken coop is buried, so I trudged through the 6"-7" of fresh snow with my water bucket and empty egg carton to feed the gals and gather eggs.

I stopped by the tractor on the way back to plug it in. After a couple hours, I'll fire it up and start with the fun.

The driveway curves down the hill to the right. It doesn't look too deep at the top, but the bottom is where most of the drifting usually takes place. 0112131044.jpg

All-in-all, not as bad as we were expecting.

Now for the "after" shots. My wife took one action shot as I was starting, then I took the after shots when I was done. The county plow hasn't even made it up here yet. One of the neighbors took his big (90hp+) John Deere/blower and headed down the road just to open up a lane so people can get into town.

Now I can relax. Coffee's brewing! :coffee::yummy::cheerful:
