Foward/Reverse hydro help

I bought a 1996 CC2185 that was neglected and it needed a little TLC. Part of its life was spent in the weather without any protection. I have most of the problems worked out and I believe I have a really good tractor. I am having a small problem with the forward pedal. If I am mowing at steady speed and attempt to speed up it wont, I have to completely lift off the pedal and push again to get a different speed. Now as long as I don't hold a steady speed (5 minutes or so) it will speed up normally. I have changed the fluid and filter with no change. I have looked under the mower and see the plastic bushings from the linkages are all brittle and worn. I have greased all pivot points on the linkages and still having same problem. I see a small black gas shock hooked to the linkage could this be worn out and causing this?

Are you 100% sure the go pedal is seeing a full range of motion when the loss of speed occurs? If the linkage is moving full range, it's gotta be something internal to the hydro drive. That little gas strut just softens the movement if you pop your foot off a pedal changing direction. Otherwise you'd have to hang on tight!
