We have those all over our property. I cut one that was broken low enough that I could cut off the horizontal piece. I am going to do a lot of reading when it comes time to clean up the rest.

I'm going to buy a good chainsaw helmet. I'll try to finish yanking them down with a chain/cable. If I can't, I'll cut as much of the hanging bits off as I can to start and be as careful as possible in the process.

Helmet won't stop those from killing you, but can't hurt. A second set of eyes off to one side wouldn't be a bad idea either. Be safe..

Oh, I know. But it might prevent me from ending up with my nose broken or concussed from an errant limb. The only thing that will protect me from the bulk of the tree will be to stay out of its way. When they're partially broken halfway up, maybe rotten, and tangled in other trees, it can be really hard to predict what they're going to do when you cut them, that's for sure!

I cleared some property late last fall using a CASE 550, Thank god for the solid plate steel over my head as a couple of limbs I missed crashed down on the cab scaring the crap outta me!
