My local newspaper just removed a post I made online that used the term "horse squeeze" because somebody took offense with it. If the censors don't remove it here, it must not be profane....right?

Hey now, warn me next time you post language like that so I can cover my ears!:D

Given the outright curse words I have read elsewhere (not here), I'm sort of both shocked and encouraged that there's a paper out there that still censors something compared to letting it all hang out like some other sites. I'm not saying your post in particular should have been censored-just the fact that someone is actually taking a look at postings might be a good thing.

If you want to see some serious posting restrictions, take a look at the useage and posting restrictions on Home Theater Shack, for example. Their moderators are pretty serious about langugage and about people being courteous to each other from what I have seen.

Do you all remember a couple weeks ago when tractor was bleeped out here? It was pretty funny for the short time.:D:D

Totally outrageous. I regard that as unnecessary censorship. I am curious to what words the Editor uses when he catches one of his toes on the kitchen table leg.

Maybe it was the context in which it was used.
The older I get the less I care what other people think. I haven't changed the way I do things but more people are trying to push their values on others.

Out of curiousity I did a yahoo search on the term and...

well, do you ever get spam emails for certain

enhancements?

That's why your post got deleted.

Who DOESN'T get those spam emails.....

Actually, my newspaper onlite site requires Facebook registration before you can make comments, and if another FB member takes issue with your comment they can report it as a violation of the terms of service and the newpaper staff often deletes such posts without looking at the comment.

My comment was about raising the gas tax and registration fees which is being proposed here, and I said "they want us to think the extra money will be used for the roads...horse squeeze"

After I saw my post was deleted, I made another saying "it appears some self-important, self-appointed censorship prig who is full of horse squeeze reported my comment as a violation of the terms of service...so maybe I should begin reporting the comments I personally dislike"

So far, my comment above has stayed on the board and gotten several "likes".

There are people that need to get a life.We need to set aside a state like maybe North Dakota,An if you have a problem with the way people pray, talk, or look, move here these people are perfect.
I had a Platoon Sgt.If you beeped out every time he spoke colorfully We would still be sitting on the bus trying to figure out how to get off an what to do once we got off.

I stopped posting on my local paper's site, after they required Facebook. I simply don't want to share everything with everybody.

Seems more and more, some type of censorship is used to fight an argument, rather than debate it. This is even getting common in how the media deals with politics. It also seems we as "posters" on forums, may at times post "words" or meanings that we wouldn't have said in mixed company 20 years ago, myself included.

there's always someone sensitive in the crowd...

take 100 people.. 80 of them or so will be within a reasonably close range of tolerance.. then you knee over on the up and downside with some that you can't possibly offend, and others that start out offended on either end..
