Foton 254 Hood, bonnet or helmet repair

No one who has seen my tractor has asked about the munched hood, in person or on the forum. It has been an elephant in the room. Let's have a look.

Personally, I'd just put it in the back of my truck and take it to a body shop that specialized in fiberglass.

Years ago I was owner painter of a custom body shop, Panit & Metal Arts,Torrance CAlifornia. My partner was an artist, I learned much from him. We could bring Corvettes back from the brink. An Expert is someone who used to be pert. We'll have to cut and grind away much of the damage.

I would apply fiberglass and matting from the rear to get all of the fractered pieces tied together. You need to establish a solid framework for deciding how to finish it.

Ron, You're very right that is what I did! Fiber glassing inside for support where the fractures showed. Richard

The fiber glass has made the hood firm again. Now the outside can be worked and shaped with plastic. First the broken ends are drawn together and stiched with fiberglass and a scale attached for accuracy.

When I got the tractor I was given a box of pieces. These pieces were the grill, they will be again.
