Forum etiquette

For Newbies, the first place to go should be the "Terms of USe" and "Forum Rules" sections. I just looked; those are in tiny print at the bottom of the page. Maybe they need to be highlighted or something...?

I have brough up a seperate section for expert summaries. YTMag has a seciont of "Articles". I refer to that site for antique tractor info. The articles section is real handy.

Muhammed, how about a separate section of TBN for "expert summaries" on common topics. These could be commented on and suggestions made from others, but would still be as short and concise as possible to help those with specific Q's. There are many, many threads on worklights, many on adding hydro circuits, and apparently many on "it won't start".

It is a double edged sword. Staying on-topic is great. But, some great ideas come from the "Brain Storming" that going off-topic brings. Sometimes it solves an unrealted issue that only comes to light when the main topic "triggers" a thought, that you may not have thought of otherwise.

Sometimes though, they do spiral out of control though...

I would also add hijacking a thread Is is not good etiquette.

I just tried the "Forum Rules" link and get an "Oops, The Page You Are Looking For Cannot Be Located" message. But your other advice seems spot-on.

Yep, I get the same thing, but I think the Terms of Use pretty well cover all the Forum Rules anyway,

I think it is important to be especially nice to new members. Many times, people read dozens or even hundreds of posts over several months before they get over their shyness and post something.

It is very important that several of their first posts be pleasant experiences for them. Otherwise, they will surmise that this is really a club, and they are not welcome. If you see a member being short or rude with a new member, jump in try to counteract that rude behavior.

I agree with the urgency of starting a new thread when you have a down machine. But I would do some searches too....

Very True. It's crazy to think of, but it happens, often. I did it....
