Hi,
Does any one know if I can use a 3 point link Fork Lift on my Yanmar 1720D (without using a hydraulic top- link) ?

The problem I would see with that, would be that, you would not be able to Tilt your Mast forward or tilt it Backwards to pick up stuff

Hi, thanks for your reply... Was hoping that the 3 point link lift capabilities would be enough. :(

When the manual top link is adjusted so the skids are flat when the forks land, the forks will be tilting back towards the tractor when they are lifted. This can make unloading the forks difficult as the load basically has to be wiped off while driving away rather than tilted off. However, 3pt can generally lift more than front end loader so it is good for the occasional heavy lift despite being awkward. I have a 3pt set for my JD and use it on the rare occasion, like a real heavy log or stone that exceeds the capacity of my front loader, as I also have front forks on the loader.

Basically any tractor with a 3pt setup can lift forks. Just be advised it won't be the most convenient loading and unloading process. I sometimes have to crank the top link longer by hand with the load relieved to get the load off. Lumpy hilly terrain makes it that much harder.

Hi and thank you for answering.... I'll give it a try as it will only be an occasional use piece off kit.

Let us know what you find out with just a top link.....I didn't think about lifting the 3pt and it tilting back, that would keep your load on the forks...I drove a forklift on a freight dock and I know how handy it is tilting that mast forward and getting "under" what your picking up....just make sure you lower the load to the bottom of the mast before raising the 3pt, which would pick the load up....You could become "Top Heavy" real fast and risk rolling over, if you leave the load half way up your forklift mast

Like said in post #4, my experience was to keep the jam nut loose on the top link. Adjust the forks flat on a flat surface so you know where that position is.

I move pallets of fire wood and round bales of hay with 3pt forks. So on uneven ground I can reach over the seat to adjust the top link in or out to get the angle I need at the moment. It really doesn't take much adjustment to do most lifts. Not the fastest or easiest system, but it works well and doesn't require the expense of a hydraulic top link.

My 5 cents of experience and opinion.
