Ford to offer CNG F-150 | Medium Duty Work Truck Info

"釘usinesses and fleet customers have been asking Ford to make F-150 available with CNG capability to take advantage of the fuel痴 low price and clean emissions, says Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager. 展ith the money saved using CNG, customers could start to see payback on their investment in as little as 24 to 36 months. Availability of cng is not that good, especially in rural areas.

They had this option for fleets a few years ago. If I remember it was like a $9K option.... It was developed by Roush Racing. Quietly disappeared.

The truck will run (from Two_bits story) on either propane or natural gas and still run gasoline, and there are also home filling stations. Ford is trying to work with suppliers to get the cost down from $4K to around $500.00 for a home filling unit. Many tractors years ago could run on LP which is much easier to get and filled with.

In CA some fleets are currently going with CNG/Diesel, which they use a dual mix of the fuels. The diesel is only to start the combustion, the main fuel is CNG.

I can already hear the swords of the petroleum lobbyist rattling , less fuel use means fewer customers stopping in to buy that big gulp soda !

Except that they frequently also drill for gas or have a subsidiary company who does so.

I worked for a natural gas company that had their entire fleet of service trucks on CNG.They could run about 45-50 miles before needing to refuel. When they had natural gas problems in their outer service areas we couldn't respond because of the short range and lack of fueling stations. Before I retired 3 years ago our entire fleet was back to gasoline.
