Decided I wanted to build a Flatbed for my Ford Ranger. The old bed's front cross member was pretty rotted away. Figured I will get more use out of this on the farm. Was pretty easy going. Now to POR-15 the frame of the truck and paint the bed. Last will be the LED lights and Treated lumber.

Cool, Ive got a neighbor that has an older Toyota 2wd, 5 speed 4 banger he put a flat bed on.

He is a tree farmer and it is kind of like a little side by side for him with heat and air that he can also drive to town. He drives it every day I reckon as I rarely see him in his other vehicles.

Don't forget that POR-15 is NOT sunlight resistant, and will need a top coat of something.

Have you thought of making it a dump bed

i made a flat bed for my chevy s10 a few years back, one was out of angle iron with a 2x4 wood deck (kinda like a deck on a house), the second was a dumping steel frame one. i have a video on it that may give you some ideas, check it out http://youtu.be/Iaug3Kd5ELA

Really nice job! I like the rub rails on the perimeters of your stake pockets. They make for nice tie down spots. I used to build our decks the same way. ( no LED's back then tho :(. )

I have built a few bodies because I was not satisfied with what was available. I have had good service from the craftsman rollaway tool chests. Makes organization of parts and tools very easy. The first and third pictures are a F350 the second, fourth and fifth are F550s'. The entire frame and steel beds are powder coated on the flatbed and plumbing truck which has really saved on painting and maintenance.

Having built several flatbed trailers. I have used channel for the crossmembers with a 2x4 rectangular tube to tie in the rub steel on the sides. By putting the tube on the sides it gives two inches of open area between crossmembers the whole side of the bed. Is great for being able to hook a strap or chain anywhere along the rail.

By inlarging you can see the open area along the sides.

Good looking bed you have there.

That does look very nice. What did you do with your fuel filler neck? Could we get a photo of that?
