Ford NH 1920 PTO adjustment info.

Hi, I'm looking for info on pto clutch adjustment (if it's possible) on father inlaws Ford 1920. The clutch doesn't disengage enough to allow engagement of pto without gear clash. Has to force it, not good. Been like this since new, but didn't complain so now it's getting worse. Dont know how many hours on it. Trans clutch works fine and always has. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Adjust the clutch pedal freeplay to the minimum end of the specification in the operator's manual. If that doesn't fix it, the tractor will need to be split and the clutch adjusted or replaced. Grinding the PTO gears will result in the need to replace them as well. That is needless expense requiring substantial disassembly in a separate area from the clutch.

If it actually has been doing this since new (not very likely), it's too bad someone didn't get it taken care of while in warranty. Your symptoms are most often a result of wear in the transmission disc which affects the release of the second (PTO) stage of the clutch.

Look on clutch pedal and see if it is being held above the floor platform by the little lever on clutch pedal.

The lever is there to ALLOW pto to operate while in neutral.

If lever is turned to allow pedal to go to floor, pto will disengage.
(all of his is assuming-dangerously, that clutch is properly adjusted.)

I know this is late, but the other option would be to shut off tractor,perhaps?
