Ford Brake Shoe interchange

Does anyone out there know whether the 2" brake shoes from a 3500 ford tractor will direct fit in place of the 1 1/2" stock shoes on a 3400 Ford Utility? I have had several conflicting answers. It appears looking up on various parts diagrams that all related parts are the same. I want the wider, heavier shoes due to my mountainous woodland.

The first thing that comes to mind is if your drums have ANY wear as a result of having 1-1/2" shoes running against them, 2" shoes will have minimal braking action. The short answer is yes, the 2" shoes will fit. How they will work is questionable.

Brakes havn't worked in a LONG time due to oil seal leaks. I don't think drums are worn , but I assume you mean a 1 1/2" wear area from the old shoes. Seems a good clean up and sanding should take care of all but a very serious wear pattern.

What Rick is saying is that if you have any wear from your 1 1/2 shoes and you put a 2" shoe on it you will only have 1/2" of shoe contacting the drum.

It's pretty optimistic to think that brake drums that are 30-40 years old have no wear. Fix the seals and replace the 1-1/2" shoes with new shoes of the same size and see what you have.
