has anybody ever repaired third gear on an 861 tractor. If they have how hard is it to do. and what do I have to do to replace the gear.

I suggest you ask that question on the Yesterdays tractor board. ytmag.com. There is a wealth of info on that board for the older tractors. I just did a quick search on "861" and got over a thousand returns. Almost bought an 861 once, nice tractor. good luck
