ford 861 powermaster
I have my father in laws old ford 861 and it has been very reliable. Last winter I changed all the fluids in it because he stored it outside at all times and it was working fine after that. It doesnt leak oil and I have checked all levels and they are fine. I was mowing some patures in the fall and the lift stopped going up. I am not the most tractor savy guy but I did take the bleeder screw out of the front of the pump and it had no oil coming out. Does this mean I have a bad pump? Is there another way to know for sure? Again, it was working after the fluid change. Thanks in advance for any help.

What color is the fluid?

Did you clean or replace any screens or filters.

Have you checked your suction hose.

It might just need primed.

In order for the pump to even start working, itmust have fluid.

Check and see if the pump inlet is flooded.

Thanks J.J. I did not clean or replace any screens or filters. Today I took the pump off the tractor, I found that if I put a little air pressure into the reservoir with the pump off I get a lot of oil out the pipe under the pump. I did notice that the gear in the pump has a lot of slop and will not turn the pump while it is on the bench. I used the utf fluid when I filled it last winter.

Took the pump apart, the gear was stripped on the inside where it is splined to the shaft. The shaft seems like it is fine, the pistons all move and pump, the bearings all seem to be in good shape and the seals are tight. Now I need to find the gear or should I get a kit to rebuild the whole thing? I am also wondering why that part would strip out like that. Thanks again.

Sound guy, that is the one. Thank you. After looking at photos on line of the shaft I am pretty sure it is going to be fine. This site has been very helpful between this thread and others I think I can figure out most any problem that comes up.
