ford 7710
hi I have a ford 7710 where diesel fuel is getting into the oil. Does anyone know all the places that diesel can leak into the oil.

lift pump can leak but not into the motor just into the pump if it has a inline pump on it. but your best bet is the injection pump are the injectors. does it smoke bad if not its not the injectors its the injector pump and if u aren't sure its diesel the powersteering pump front seal could be out letting more oil go into the motor block

The lift pump can and will leak fuel into the crankcase, by way of the injection pump cambox and pump camshaft seal. Another possibility is a leaking Thermostart unit. Injectoprs can leak as well, but less commonly than either the lift pump or Thermostart.

what is was saying was for deisel to get into the motor for the lift pump the injection pump has to be leaking because if not it will just fill up the pump and come out the over flow line on the back of the pump. so in away the lift pump can not leak diesel into the motor just into the injection pump

The last couple of years made, the 7710 had a pressure lubed cam box. On those units, a leaky lift pump could leak diesel into the crankcase.

well i haven't seen any 4 cylinders made like that so if they were then it could be but the only ones i have ever seen with a pressured lubed cam was on 6 cylinder models never on a four so i guess i have learned something new but can't find any diagrams of one on a 7710 either

In '85, part # 74 lube oil line, replaced the overflow tube. The shaft seal was removed to let the oil drain back to the pan. Ford/Simms made the change because people neglected the the fuel pump oil and pumps were failing.
