Ford 7600 Split?

If you let my 3910 idle with shuttle in neutral, trans in 4th, you'll swear it's flying apart. Even had a fellow TBN member call me and visit on the phone about his doing the same thing. Sometimes those odd noises are normal. :confused3:

The chatter you hear at low idle is fairly common for tractors with Dual Power.

Am I hearing the planetaries then?

I plan to do exactly as you said, Rick. I really appreciate you taking the time to keep me from learning all of this the hard way. All this dual power and load monitor stuff is new to me.

Will I need to remove the lift cover as well?

I just did a test on it tonight. While holding up my 9' Befco mower, it makes a small correction (hiccup) every 6 secods. Then I raised the mower 16" off the ground. After 30 minutes, it was almost the whole way down. So...should I take off the lift cover? If I do, what would be the likley culprits in there?

It seems thaat the Load Monitor is literally in the way. Can it be disconnected / removed? Would that be advisable? I do have a 4 bottom semi mount plow that I would like to pull with the tractor, but don't I need a special load monitor cylinder for the system to work? I was told that these cylinders are nearly impossible to find and cost big bucks. Thoughts?

As far as the chatter in item 4, it will be interesting to see the pressure reading on the PTO Dual Power circuit. Excessive leakage in the PTO circuit could be the reason the brake doesn't apply as well, but suspect a worn band. Also, low pressure could be causing rattle sound in Dual Power. Either way, sounds like PTO is ripe for reconditioning. Look for PTO hub and sealing ring wear too.

My 3910 does that as well. Especially hiccups after a few hours of field work to heat up the fluid. Total separate issue from your other problems, but certainly something to correct while you are torn down. Mine is at the top of the "Winter Shop Project" list.

Keep us posted on your progress.

The lift cylinder is leaking. The top cover holds the lift cylinder and piston. The oring on the piston is likely worn, but the cylinder could be scored too. The hiccup is on the outside of what Ford saw as acceptable, but it is awful irritating.
Load Monitor can't be removed without swapping parts and not worth it, but since you have it, you can use it for the plow. Splitting the rear end from the transmission is not terrible.
The Load Monitor cylinder is not special and the idea is to hook the wheel cylinder on your plow to the Load Monitor circuit. The Load Monitor is a draft sensing device that as the load on the tractor increases, it raises the plow via the cylinder on the wheel of the plow. It works like draft control on the 3 point, but externally.

Honestly, the hiccup problem is barely even noticable. I've seen much worse where you can see the impliment jumping...this is just a very minor adjustment. So, if you think that would fall inside of what Ford deems acceptable, I may just leave it alone for now. UNLESS I have to take off the lift cover anyway to fix the PTO issue???

You don't HAVE to remove the lift cover to make the PTO repair. But you have an excuse to do so, and having it off will give you a much better view of things as they go back together. A good idea for a first timer. It will be MUCH easier to align the hyd pump idler gear and watch the clutch assembly to make sure you don't break a seal ring by letting the tractor roll apart as much as 1/2" while aligning everything. You might be looking at an additional $25 -50 in parts to re-seal the lift piston and buy the cover gasket, etc. Do it all now. If the lift cylinder is scored, a brake hone will probably cure it.

Ditto to that.

Thanks guys. I will do exactly as recommended.

So, how exactly do I use the load monitor?

Would I just hook up the lift arms to the plow and plug the plow cylinder into the load monitor remotes and go? The guy that I talked to (was a dealer for 40 years or something like that) made it sound a lot more complicated. I can't find much of anything on the net about load monitor. One guy said that it is "as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle". LOL

Is that valve by my right foot with different notches something to do with it? I can't even get it to move.
