Hey all,

I was using the tractor yesterday to plow up a new field and then I had to stop. As I was driving back to the shed it started throttling up on its own a few times and the fuel gauge dropped to almost empty (it had said closer to half full while plowing). I parked it. This morning I fired it up and went back to plowing after working for around 15-20 minutes the gauge dropped again and I decided I should top it up. Was driving over to fuel when it started to die so I put in the clutch and shut it down immediately.

Brought fuel over and filled it. Wouldn't start. Did all of the bleeds and drains necessary when run empty. Still wouldn't start. So I replaced the filter (which was replaced this winter) it looked pretty dirty. Still no start.

I've opened the bleed screw on the C.A.V. injector and cranked it. Fuel spurts out on every crank but it still won't start once tightened.

So my injector has had a slow leak all season but I've been putting it off to rebuild this winter when I have time. Could the leaky injector cause this immediate problem or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thanks for any input.

A 5600 should be 4 cyl. With 4 you ought to be able to start on just 3. 3 it's a try it and see if it will work with only 2 like with my 3 cylinders.

Starting isn't using all that much fuel and the pump usually puts out more fuel than is needed for steady state running (acceleration exempted) so your return line from the injectors has fuel going back to the tank meaning to me that you should have enough fuel to feed a small leak and have enough left to start and run.

Other things would/could be a clogged air intake, or your battery is need of replacement. How fast was it rolling the engine? Fast enough to start? Cables, connections, battery and starter were all hot, not cool like when you shedded it and restarted the next day....after it had cooled. Other thing leading to a battery problem is your gauges failing to work properly.

Take your battery to a battery store and have it load tested.

Last would be bad fuel.

Once a CAV pump revs up & shuts off, its gulping air..
You bled the "pump" w/ the bleed screw.. did you loosen ALL the lines AT the injectors?? {you only did half the job}.

Never received notifications about your responses. Thanks to both of you. Later that day I ended up loosening all the injector lines at the pump and then after turning it over for 20 seconds it started and has been running fine since.

Battery is great btw.

Thanks again.
