Ford 4610 spool valve

I am adding aux. hyds to a 1984 4610. I put on an adapter plate and ran hoses to a single spool valve.The plate is stamped with a"P" for pressure side.I hooked it to "in"port on spool valve.I hooked it up to a batwing rake.I had to kill the tractor because I had fluid pressure on one hose,but not full pressure but a heavy flow.When I hooked it up it raised up but leak right back down.I switch hoses and same thing.I took the spool back and got another just like it.It did the same thing.I swap the "P" hose to the out side"return" of the spool and got the same thing.All the holes on the adapter plate lined up and it looks ok there.both spools were rebuilt.Could it be two bad spool valves or the wrong application.anybody got any ideas.Help appreciated.

You batwing hyd cyl probably have worn piston seals, and will leak down.

Try this, lower the bat wing mower and remove the rod end hose .

Then, push lever fwd and see if fluid flows out the rod end port. If it does, the piston seals are bypassing. and need rebuilt or a new cyl .

Thank you J J we'll give it a try.But what about the fluid bypass with hose pressure when not hooked up to anything?

With valve in neutral and nothing connected to work ports, the pump flow should be to tank.

With open center hyd, the pump is pumping all the time, and the fluid is flowing through all valves to tank.

If you move a valve lever with no hoses attached, the fluid will flow over the relief valve and you should hear it, and the engine may slow or lug down.
