Need a bit more info on this one. Which Ford 4000 is it? Year, 4cyl, 3cyl, industrial, manual or power steering. The New Holland website for parts shows all these variants and the diagrams there for your model may be helpful for the disassembly.

Strike the recieving part with a 2lb (minimum) hammer at a 90 degree angle to the rod end. Put differently hit the side of the steering arm/pitman arm or whatever part the rod end is attached to. You can back up the opposite side with another hammer if you have enough hands. If you can start the nut back on and place a little pressure on the rod end with a pry bar, that will help. Replacing the nut loosly will keep the rod end from hitting flesh or tractor parts when it comes free. Works for all makes, models, colors & sizes.
