Ford 4000 Rear Axle Leak

Does anyone have experience repairing a rear axle oil leak on a mid 1970s Ford 3000 or 4000? I'm considering buying one of these tractors and have seen several with a rear axle leak. How difficult it is to make this repair? It looks like you have to remove the side of the transmission housing. Are there other common problems with these tractors that I should be looking for?

3000's and 3 Cylinder 4000's have completely different rear axle housing castings and internal parts. It's best to list one model,and specify where the leak is in order to get a detailed answer.
