Ford 4000 (801) No First Gear

Just picked up a Ford 4000, gas, 4 cyl, 4 sp, mechanically a 801 I'm told. Tractor will not go into first gear. Doesn't grind, slips into the slot for first (I believe), let out on the clutch, nothing. I'm waiting on my manuals to arrive, but in the interim, has anyone had this happen? Can it be fixed just through the top of trams or does it need to be split? How hard is it to split these?

I'll get some pics and video when I get out there once the sun comes up.

I would pop the tranny top cover and have a look see why it's not going into gear. Here is a link. I know it's an 8n and locked between gears but basically the same trans so it might give you some idea. Also look for any broken/chipped gear teeth.

not going into geat may be a slipped shifter fork,a nd yes.. I'd pop the top for a looksee. might e a set screw backed out.. might be a broken shifter fork.
