I have a mid 90's Ford 3930, and has developed a couple of issues. First is a problem with steering at lower RPMs, which I have narrowed down to a low/almost empty PS pump reservoir. Any particular fluid I need to run in the Ford for the power steering? Will universal tractor fluid be adequate? Also, the reservoir does not have a dip stick, do I simply fill to the bottom of the filler neck?

Second issue is occasionally, the tractor will flat out not crank. No noise, nothing. I'm narrowed this down to either the PTO safety switch, or more than likely, the neutral safety switch for the "Low - High" selector. What is the best way to troubleshoot the switches? I know there are two wires going through the shifter plate cover, but I am not sure how the switch works. Does it simply ground out?

Thanks!

I think the fluid ofr the peower steering is power steering fluid. If you have the small external power steering pump, remember there is a filter in there that needs changing about every 1000 hrs.

I think it is a simple open/close circuit switch. It may be in series with other switches so all the swithes have to be closed to get current to the solenoid.

Do not use power steering fluid designed for cars. Use New Holland hydraulic fluid. The automotive ps fluid will ruin seals.
