The right side power steering cylinder on my 1986 Ford 3910 tractor cracked along the long seam of the tube and leaks fluid. The cap from the reservoir was missing and I think water got in and froze.

Can the cylinder tube be welded or rebuilt? The problem is that I can not get the rear (tie rod) end to come off so that I can take cylinder to be looked at. I've used a pickle fork but won't come loose - any ideas? thanks

hit the metal where tie rod bolt goes thru, not the threads. a couple good licks with a hammer it should come off. if you have room hold a hammer on back side when you hit it, don't be afraid to hit it hard
