Ford 3600 Deisel Tractor

This is my problem...while trying to change out my hydraulic oil in the rear axle..I removed the pan-head screw(part#38308s36-5/16-24x1/8) instead of the square-head level screw located above the pan-head. The pan-head screw will not screw in .....what was it connected to internally? What do I need to do to correct this mistake???? The tractor is 1981 3600 FORD(SERIAL NUMBER) C677896. THANKS FOR ANY HELP....BOSQUE

Well your suppose to remove the bottom screw. Is this what your calling pan head screw? The one on the side which is a square head is the full level check screw. The bottom one should go back in no problem.

Pretty common mistake actually. One you likely wont do again
That screw holds a bracket inside for the hydraulic suction tube.
To fix it, drain the oil out of your rear end. Remove the Left step plate (that's the Port side of the tractor for you landlubbers) and then the round cover behind it.
Look in there with a flash light and you will see what needs to be done.
However, you need someone to help you with this as it is very difficult to reach in there and hold that bracket in place AND get the screw started from the Right side.
So find a helper, give them a screwdriver and have them start the screw while you hold the bracket in place.
Very easy fix though. And no you didn't hurt anything but DO fix it.
