Hey guys, I have a 1972 ford 2000 and I bought a new generator with tach drive. Hooked up and tach meter don't work. I replace the instrument cluster and cable and It still doesn't work. I took the cable off the drive and put old cable back on, nothing happened. Took cable drive off generator and hooked cable up and turned the gear with a screwdriver and cable moves. Re-installed all and still doe not work. It appears to me that the cable does not stick out far enough to engage gear when cable is tightened up to its stopping ring on the meter side. What can I do?

With it hooked to Gen, does the cable turn?

Yes it will turn but I have to shove as far as I can to get to, so that is why I am thinking inner cable is too short or the drive is not right

pull the cable, do the drive ends look rounded or chewed? broke?

no everything is new, with the old cable it does the same thing. I took the tach drive apart and without the housing it spins good bot put it back in housing I have to play with it to make it work.
