Ford 2000 How can I tell the model year?

Hopefully UltraDog will chime in soon and clarify this. I can't tell by your pics how your draft control works so can't be sure.

On my 3910 I have two 3pt levers side by side. The outer on controls the 3pt during normal operation. The inner one controls the draft. If the inner lever is lowered all the way, draft is taken out of operation.

Older Ford tractors used one 3pt lever. They had a small steel lever on the side of the rear end housing, kinda under the seat that when up or horizontal put the 3pt into normal operation. When this lever is flipped down or vertical draft is activated. Both controlled by the single lever. If yours is that way, you need the steel lever under the seat up or horizontal. Then the 3pt lever lowered all the way once the Backhoe is installed. Curious how yours is set up??

If you look closely at this pic, you can see my two levers. The outer is in the raised position. The inner is in the lowered position.

Oh, forgot to talk about draft control. Ford uses top link draft control. It senses the pull or load on the top link. If draft is activated and being used to plow for example, it will maintain plow depth by sensing that load. If the plow tries to dig deeper it creates load on the top link and the 3pt will be told to raise slightly. When the plow rises and the top link load decreases the 3pt will be lowered slightly. All with no lever movement on the operators part. When properly setup it works very well.

So in your case, sounds like when digging the hoe puts load on the top link. If the draft control is activated the tractor thinks it needs to raise the 3pt. Can't raise it because of the hoe bracketry. So the hydraulics go into bypass. the pump exceeds it's normal operating pressure trying to overcome this obstacle and blows a seal. Also the hydraulics will get extremely hot during all of this. It would be like hitching the 3pt arms to a load they cannot lift, then raising the 3pt lever and walking away, leaving the tractor straining to lift the load and going into bypass mode. Not good.

There is a lever under the operator's seat which has two positions. In position control it point upward, in draft control it point forward. Position it to point at the operator. The lift control lever needs to be in the fully down position.

It looks like your tractor is prior to production installation of alternators. The tach drive adapter should be available as a service part. It is an easy installation.

Thanks for all the input,
I cleaned off the numbers and took another pic, it look like G5 8

The little lever under the seat was down when i blew the last pump gasket. The pump was very hot. It ran a lot cooler today with the lever up.

I need to replace all the hydro oil I lost. Not sure what kind to use Would the low priced 5 gal at Tractor Supply be ok, or should I use something else?
I have some left from the hoe. It is a 90 wt 100% mineral oil spec for old ford tractors.

My owner's manual says to use Ford M-134. You can use that number as a guide when buying oil. Most brands will say on the container what they are equivalent to. In my case the local Farm and Home store carries a "Universal 303" hydraulic oil that states it meets the M-134 rating. That's what I use.

Go to TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors It's a website that has a lot of good information on almost any make/model. Search for your specific tractor. In the data you find it should also tell you what year your tractor is based on that serial number.

Sounds like you've solved the hydraulic problem. Your tractor was in "draft" mode and was constantly trying to lift the 3pt.

You might also search the Internet, I use Google, for an Owner's Manual for your tractor. I got an electronic version for mine. I think I paid $30. I then printed it off and keep it, along with other manuals in a file cabinet in my shop. I am constantly referring to it. Back in those days an owners manual told you everything you need to know to operator the tractor. Mine even tells how to adjust the engine valves for example.
