Ford 2000 3 cylinder diesel not firing

IDK what pump u have.??
If it’s a RoosaMaster or Stanadyne pump, it might have a check ball return fitting..
If it’s a CAV, Lucas or Delphi pump, they do not have a check ball connector..
If u think it’s the connector, simply unscrew it completely and start the engine.. if it stays running, u have your answer.

It's a CAV rotary, being a Ford there's a return on the side plate that goes to the fuel filter housing that I believe has a check ball in it as my brothers 4100 Ford had one that had roughly the same issue (and the pump was just as gross when he got it), he pulled out the ball and spring and it's just ran for the last 2 years... I'll investigate tomorrow, also pull the return line as it could be plugged. I can't imagine why else it would go about idle speed at max governor setting then stall after about a minute...

On mine, I installed the lift pump off a gmt400 6.5 diesel - they are a low pressure lift pump -

I connected to the line coming off the peatcock. Added some diesel additive and Power Service Clear-Diesel.

I added a relay to run the lift pump with key on. And a toggle switch to run on demand.

I turned the toggle switch on and just let it circulate.

It wasn't that, the check valve was gummed up for sure and the return line was likely restricted, haven't checked the return line through the injectors to the tank yet but that's far fetched...

I think I have to get into the pump again as now it's not getting any fuel to the injectors again so the pistons probably stuck, I likely missed some goo... we'll get to that in about a week...

I did do an oil change, not sure how it got there but there was apparently water in the oil so I changed that and the filter... the radiator isn't low enough to have been from that. The oil level was high before but I was figuring on doing a change anyway so didn't think much of it until after it ran and I checked it again and it was a grey color instead of jet black like I expected...
