Ford 1920 not starting not the NSS what is this part?

If your starting problems continue, you might try this. My 1920 kept developing 'start' problems related to the wiring harness. Seems that as the wiring ages on these ##20 series tractors, it has more difficulty passing full voltage to the starter. I got tired of troubleshooting and installed a push-button start switch on the dash 2 years ago that 'shunts' from the starter post to the starter solenoid spade connector. Starting reliability has been 100% since. However, I must exercise additional caution when starting because this 'shunt' bypasses all of the safety switches.

Pretty simple, really. Remove dash and drill hole to fit a weatherproof push button start switch such as Dorman Starter Switch 85984. Run some 12Volt DC wiring from the starter post (where the battery cable connects), to one of the push button posts and from the starter solenoid spade connector to the other push button post. I used some brown 12v wiring the is built together but can be pulled apart between the wires for making connections; don't know the wire gauge but wasn't real big; just needs to carry enough current to engage the start solenoid. Used crimp-type connectors on the ends to fit the wire size and posts. Then mount the push button in the dash. First, turn on the glow plugs (turn switch backwards) for a few seconds, then turn the ignition switch to the 'on' position to open the fuel solenoid valve, then push the button to start..ta-da! All start safety switches (neutral, etc.) and the entire wiring harness is bypassed when using the push button so be sure your clutch is 'in' or the tractor is in neutral. Use only at your own risk as this method can be dangerous.

Sounds simple enough
took a pic the two wires seem to be a red and black/yellow stripe
Did you splice into black/yellow stripe wire ?
On second thought looks like the cap for the solenoid is held on by one screw and it backs out toward the firewall. Attach to post at top (12 o'clock)?
Like the Dorman starter switch too
just noticed you said from the starter solenoid spade connector
I guess when I remove the cap for the solenoid I'll see it

I'd be carefull before I started putting jumpers in that relay socket.

Most relays will have 5 pins
a common
a normally closed
a normally open
then two for a coil, one to ground and one for activation.

When the coil gets power and energizes the internal contacts will change state,
ie; the normally open closes and the normally closed opens.
Unless the mounting screw on your relay is a ground two of the wires will be for the internal coil in the relay.
The other two will be the switch leads to the starter from your neutral switch, those two would be the ones to jumper to bypass the relay.

I was afraid of something like this. The mounting tab is metal with a small bolt into the firewall. I guess it could be wired as a ground or not!

Well I won't be trying to jump it. I don't know enough about this to be confident it will not screw things up.
Push button start looks promising.
Last solution is just throw money at it and buy the parts from Messicks

installing a push button start momentary switch is a very simple job. Use a wire the same size or larger as the black/yellow wire. connect one side of the push button to positive (can run from battery or starter). disconnect the black/yellow wire and connect other side of push button to the terminal you took disconnected this wire from. Be sure to tape up the end of the black/yellow wire good so if you forget and turn switch to the start position it will not short out to something. I have to do this on 2 of mine. Just remember all of your safeties will be bypassed now. Will start with PTO on and will continue running with PTO on if you get off the seat.
