Is there any way to test the switch
I replaced it 4 or 5 years ago and now it seems to be bad again

I used the tractor yesterday parked it and today no go!
A couple of months ago I recall having to play with the F/R shifter to get it to start
but all OK since then

The part was not cheap and could it have failed so soon?
The connections are good, two bolts/screws holding it on are tight.
if I unclip the wire connector can I put in a jumper to bypass/test switch
could something the switch bolts onto be worn/

Neutral safety switch is a normally open switch by action of spring, when the clutch is pressed it closes against the spring, so when you let go it goes to it's normal position. you can use a test light and connect two leads to the two lead of the sender switch. light should turn on when yo clutch and should go out when you let go of clutch. You might use a ohm meter and read the resistance of the two lead coming from Neutral switch. clutch out, switch open and you should read infinity or open switch. Clutch pressed in, switch closed and you should read zero resistance (ohms) and closed switch.

JC I don't think the switch has anything to do with the clutch
It's located just on top of the F/Reverse lever shaft
You can just see it if you look where the lever goes inside the inst housing

Mike, I don't have 1920. the description I gave above is a generic of how a momentary switch works. Based on a hard wired control system design a switch might need to be either open or close. A change of state on the switch is going to make t to either go closed or opened so the test procedure I gave earlier is still valid statement.

What is the function of this Neutral safety? is it looking for transmission to be in neutral before you can start? do you see two leads to come out of the switch? do you have a SBA # for your part? I'll check with NH website to see if I can find it and will post back. I'm sure there are several guys here that have the same rig and know exactly what it is. They hopefully will chime in soon.
