I have a real nice 1987 Ford 192o diesel. Lately it has been seizing up after running a short time under heavy load. My guess was that it was over-heating, so I replace water pump -- and it is still seizing up. It will start right up after cooling, so I'm pretty sure that it is an over-heating problem -- but not positive.
I have not changed the thermostat, so that is my next chore (I should have done it first -- cheaper and easier). I will probably just go to local parts store and get similar thermostat at 190 degrees and some gasket paper, as pre-cut gasket seems hard to come by.
Any other ideas on what I should be looking for? It does not seem to be fuel or air, as engine will not even turn over after stalling until it cools down -- then it fires right up. so I am guessing engine is over heating, then freezing up.
What else would casue this besides bad thermostat? Radiator is getting hot, but not overly so. what else should I by checking or looking for??
thanks.
