Hello,

Before I hear about how unsafe this could potentially be, I know. That doesn't change my interest in making it happen. I have a 1986 Ford 1710, 4WD, ROPS, 770B Loader, 60" bucket. I generally just use it around the house for landscaping duty, cleaning up, firewood, and pulling the occasional motor. I'm fairly new to diesels as this is my first. I recently picked up a diesel 1 ton truck, and am also considering doing a diesel swap into my Toyota offroad rig. That said, I've been doing a ton of diesel research, and it seems most diesels with a mechanical injection pump can produce quite a lot of power. So #1, are there any relatively simple mods to get more power out of my 1710 by messing with the injection pump. #2 - My loader is a gutless wonder. It handles most tasks relatively well, but when it comes to picking rocks, or anything that requires good hydraulic power, it just falls far short. Other machines of similar size that I've operated seem to have far better hydraulic systems. Are there any hydraulic pump upgrades available? Possibility of retrofitting a Ford 1910 or 2110 pump on? Short of a PTO pump, I wish I had more options with this tractor and there is so little information out there on them. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a twin 1710, you have to remember its old, and the hydraulics are not what they are now. It sounds like you want to lift huge rocks... don't destroy a quality tractor...you would better off getting something much bigger. Every tractor has a limit.

I'm not planning on ruining it... But the basic aspecs of the tractor lead me to believe that it is capable of so much more. Don't get get wrong, I love my tractor, I bought it with a loader, for $5,000 with a fresh clutch and freshly rebuilt motor with 0 hours. it runs great, and I have no issues, but due to my experience til now with equipment and diesels, i feel like this tractor could be great!.. I have an 800 +/- LBS counter weight, and when on, it feels completely weighted to handle more....

I had a 1710 that was scary in what it would lift. With weighted tires and a 5 foot rortotiller on the back it would lift the rear wheels off the ground. I always thought it was buit before lawyers got involved.

I'm not denying I haven't come close to rolling once or twice but overall I operate on very even ground, and would like to have max capacity. Obviously when it were dangerous to do so I would back off, but it's a good working tractor, so i would like to have the ability to do what I want with it.

Have you changed your hyd. fluid and filter recently. Have you put a gauge on the hyd. system to see what the pressure is. You may need to adjust the relief valve . There is one on the PTH and probably one on the loader. The hydraulics on these tractors are slow but strong. I am surprised you complaint is with lifting power. Set the pressure to factory specs. You have to understand that the front axles on these tractors will only carry so much weight . If you crank up the hyd pressure and add a bunch of ballast to the rear you can over load the tractor causing the front axle to brake or brake the transmission in half. I think if you get thing set to where they should be you will happy.
