Ford 1710 help!! Fuel filter question.

I am changing the fuel filter on a ford 1710. It came with a spring where does this go? I did not see this spring when I took filter off!!

A lot of Japanese built tractors had them in the bottom of the bowl under the filter to be sure it stayed seated
