Background:

>Trying to help replace a clutch on an approx. 1984 Ford 1710 4x4.

>Planning on splitting the tractor in the next weekend or so.

>Have the Ford service manual

>Have general tools, floor jacks, jack stands concrete slab etc. Never split tractor but seems manageable with service manual

>Manual identifies a 'tool no. 1300' to set the adjusting screws on the release levers

>A couple of the manual pages are attached

Questions

>Does anyone have the dimensions of the 1300 tool or alternative? Cant' seem to find anything certain online

>Any other clutch replacement tips would be appreciated.

Hi,
Looking at the picture , if you are installing a new clutch assembly I would expect the release fingers/ lever to be adjusted correctly , for peace of mind take a measurement with a digital or analogue vernier caliper from the top of the finger to a solid stationary reference point on the pressure plate surface, for each of the fingers and compare them to each other and to the old unit. "Ford " manuals usually have a specifications section if the measurement isn't in the body of the manual (Car/ Truck)
Hope that helps

Hopefully your manual describes how to block the front wheels so they don't turn to the side as you are moving the front away. this will cause the front end to lean excessively to one side and may tip over. Can't just chain the steering wheel, because you have already removed the drag link at the steering gear box. Also since the drive shaft that goes to the front axil is off look at all the splined ends of the shafts and the splined couplers and replace as needed to save yourself splitting it again later. My experience was with a 1910, but I believe they are the same.

Thanks for the replies. Hope to see the manual myself next week and get some insight before we open it up.
