Oil was coming out the top of the steering column. I am attempting to replace the seal at the bottom of the steering column. I have everything loose I think but the outer tube will not come up off of the steering shaft. help?

Look at the attachment below for non-power steering column for 1700. Where was the oil leaking and what seal are you attempting to replace? identify the leak location closest to associated part number for clarity.

JC,

Yes it is hydraulic fluid, my tractor is 4wd with power steering. I have it torn down to the point that I have a small space maybe half an inch betwwen the outer tube and the cove,r part 38. The tube is unscrewed from the cover but will not slide up off of the shaft. Attempting to get down to oil seal part number 40

part #47 is a big dia nut that holds the outer tube to the base/cover #38. did you loosen that? how about the two tabs in the cover? two tabs 90 degress to each other and a hole, are the tabs bolted to something to hold it steady?

it appears that #46 is a bushing and has to come off before outer shaft can be withdrawn. have you take that out.
