Today while hauling brush the range selector got stuck and I can't budge it. It appears to be in the neutral position, but when I select a gear with the mainshift lever it drives as if it is in a higher gear. Any thoughts to help? Also, I need a service manual for this tractor, are there any floating around on the web for free? Thanks

The question was asked several times before. Look at the link below and you'll find your answer. Let me know what part of the manual you need and I'll email it to you.

Thanks JC, I will try that tomorrow. I could use the pages of the manual that show opening up the cover plate. By the schematic posted elsewhere I cannot tell how safe it is to pull it off without any parts moving or falling out of position. I appreciate your help.

Darkinark,

You do not need to take the cover plate to take detent spring ball and spring. I'll post the section you asked tomorrow.

OK, I loosened the bolts, would not budge; took the bolts completely out, would not budge; pulled the springs out, then it moved smoothly into gear. JC, thanks for your help and for the files.

Sweet:) Did you check the SS ball for roundness? was it roughed up? in either case I'd change the ball and put it back with the same spring unless spring is damaged.

No, I didn't check the balls because I couldn't get them out. My son has a magnet that will reach them though and I will check them. Thanks again.
