I recently purchased a Ford 1600 compact tractor. The engine runs good but accordingly to the previous owner the 3 point was slow, especially in colder months. I went to the local New Holland dealer and purchased the high dollar hydraulic fluid from them and then replaced all od the fluids in this tractor. I still have no 3 point working and according to the service manual there is a filter on the pick up tube, but I have been unable to locate said pick up tube or even how to access it if I did find it.....any ideas?????

have you looked at the exploded parts diagram for the intake screen?

The exploded parts view show the screen on the intake tube in the sump & I have yet to find this intake tube or an access to the hydraulic sump to change/remove said screen...hence my problem.

have you looked at the diagram and see the 3 bolt flange and followd the external suction line?

I have and if I am correct the top side of the pump is the suction side and where it attaches to the transmission topside I have opened the 3 bolt flange but was unable to pull it out as it has a 90 degree bend on it and it looks like it would require the removal of the fuel injector pump to pull it out. To wit I really did not want to do, if possible. That area of the bell housing does not have any other access than the flange I mentioned, so if the filter is there it must be small and flush with the suction side.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

that pipe makes a sloped 90 down, and has the small suction screen on the end of it.

That's kind of what I thought, but do you have to remove the fuel injection pump to remove that line as it sure appears that way?

you should not have to.. but then I never had a 1600. I have worked on a 1700 and a 1500, and didn;t on the 1700.

I finally found it and the screen was clean and not clogged. My concern now is with all of the sumps full I have found that the screen was only 1" submerged, is that enough?

I" doesn't sound correct, has the tube been shortened?
