Ford 1500
The brakes on my ford 1500 are not working. The left side went out fall of 2013 and I was able to use the right side for the rest of mwoing season and for moving snow around. Last weekend i had an opporutniy to open it up and see what was going on. I noticed the brakes shoes on the left side have basically fallen apart, no problem, bought new shoes for both sides (figured why no it was apart). Put it back together and now the pedal falls all the way down with little to no resistance or stopping the tractor. Replaced one drum and still have the same problem.

I have adjusted the linkages multiple times and ways and nothing seems to be working. Ideas????

Kinda sounds like something didn't go back the way it came apart. The cam levers come to mind. Before doing much else, jack up one side of the rear and unhook the rods from the cam levers at the brakes, then work the cam lever by hand as you spin the wheel and see if you hear anything, or feel any drag. Could you have put the cams back in the housing upside down? (w/ levers up) from the drawing at Ford they should be pointing down, might not allow enough travel. Have you pulled the housings again to be sure the shoes are seated against the cam correctly? Just a couple of things that stick out in my mind. Good Luck!

Figured out the problem. Last night i took it apart and put the old shoes that had a little pad left back on one side. The brakes work fine. put the new shoes on and nothing works. So it has to be shoes. After some research i have found out the the replacment OE shoes that are sold today have a 6mm mounting base. My originial ones must have a 9mm mounting base, so whent he brake cam turns with the smaller mounting base it cant turn them enough to push against the drum. Looks like i will have to get the old shoes relined somehow. When you put the old and new shoes beside each other you cant tell a difference but when installed you sure can.

Well glad you figured it out. Are you saying they dont have the right ones or? I once had some shoes relined for a trailer I had. it was to bad but wasnt real cheap. if that helps
Not sure if this link helps but Im sure there are other companys that do it.

oh i see now.
These are Factory NEW Shoes, Not Rebuilt. This is for One Pair (2 pieces), enough to do one side of the Tractor
gosh they sure are expensive.

well those are the ones i bought and do not work. look at the 3rd picture shows 6mm for the mounting pad. for whatever reason these replacement ones do not fit or work properly. They are nort factory (from ford) since ford no longer makes replacement parts for these tractors. So im going to have the old shoes relined and then put them back on.

any posibility to return them? they are advertised to fit..So i would think they could be worht returning.

If it were me, I would weld a piece of 1/8" flat bar onto the mounting pad (3mm is about1/8") to make it 9mm thick.
